The Mills: A Love Letter from Kapok

This large-scale mixed-media wall installation by UUendy Lau celebrates Hong Kong’s textile heritage through storytelling, craft and community participation. Stretching 23 metres across The Park at The Mills, the work traces three generations of women, neighbourhood life and the evolving textile industry, accompanied by the symbolic presence of the kapok tree. Combining narrative illustration, woven craftsmanship and participatory workshops, the project creates a layered visual archive of memory and labour. Giant woven kapok flowers, co-created with local communities in collaboration with weaving artist Breakthrough Art Studio anchor the installation, transforming the wall into a shared space of reflection and belonging.
